The original Dragon’s Way School of Kenpo Inc was started in the Island of Jersey in 1996, and grew steadily until Mr. & Mrs. Smith immigrated to the United States of America in November 2000.
The Dragon’s Way School of Kenpo Inc (USA) opened in March of 2001. Since its opening in Carlisle our student count is on the rise now more than ever. Since our new location at Castle Commons we have more opportunities for serving the public.
Apart from Mr. & Mrs. Smith there are 3 adult black belts, 4 adult brown belts. The School has entered many local and international competitions and events and won many titles and trophies. We have produced champions in Forms and sparring. The school has also held seminars and has entertained top Martial Arts instructors such as: Mr. Huk Planas,Mr. Graham Lelliott, Datu Tim Hartman and Mr. Al McClucky.
Kenpo Karate is a street based self defense system of martial arts created by Ed Parker, characterized by the use of quick moves in rapid-fire succession intended to overwhelm an opponent. It is largely marketed as a self-defense system, and is derived from traditional Japanese martial art and other martial arts such as Southern Chinese kung fu found in the cultural melting pot of Hawaii.
Parker introduced significant modifications in his art, including principles, theories, and concepts of motion as well as terminology, throughout his life. He left behind a large number of instructors who teach many different versions of American Kenpo as Ed Parker died before he named a successor to his art.
“I come to you with only karate, empty hands. I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor; should it be a matter of life or death, of right or wrong; then here are my weapons, karate, my empty hands.”
—Ed Parker – March, 1957
